Effective July 1, 2011, federal regulations require significant changes to the SAP policy, adding new restrictions.

Policy Basics

Federal regulations require all schools participating in Title IV federal financial aid programs to have a Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) policy that conforms to the requirements detailed below. These requirements apply to all students as one determinant of eligibility for financial aid.
SAP is calculated at the end of each payment period. Check with your Financial Aid Advisor if you are unclear when the payment period is over.

Two Requirement Categories – Qualitative & Quantitative

Qualitative Requirement – The qualitative requirement sets a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average of 2.0

Quantitative Requirement – The quantitative requirement has two parts, a maximum time frame and a required completion ratio

Sample of a SAP document signed by instructor and student and submitted to Financial Aid:
Satisfactory Academic Progress 2011
  • Maximum time frame (maximum attempted clock hours) – Your eligibility for Pell ends when you have completed the total number of clock hours for your program of study. If you need more hours to complete the work, no further Pell can be disbursed

No person shall, on the basis of sex, race, color, national origin or handicap, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity under the direction of the local education agency.
