MISSION: We will provide an opportunity for students to apply scientific principles, Practical Nursing Students Learning How read the needles. learn technical skills, and demonstrate compassion to succeed within a small learning community where integrity is expected and excellence is achieved. We will prepare students to pass the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX-PN) and provide area health care facilities with qualified Licensed Practical Nurses who have skills, knowledge, and attitudes necessary for successful, safe practice.

What are the responsibilities of an LPN?

The LPN works under the supervision of an RN. The LPN performs tasks for direct patient care as nursing procedures, treatments, and administering medications. The LPN completes an IV course following graduation. The RN will assess the client; the LPN provides data to further compliment the care.

What kind of clinical experiences are available?

Brewster Technical Center follows the guidelines of the Department of Education and Florida Board of Nursing. PN students have experiences in nursing homes, hospitals, long term acute care hospitals, community based: mental health clinics, drug and alcohol rehabilitation, day care for high risk infants – preschool age, school district health clinics, and adult training centers for adults with disabilities. Leadership occurs during the last 8 weeks prior to graduation to simulate the role of the LPN in long term care facilities.

How does a 4 day a week program function?

Brewster Technical Center's PN program is unique as it runs a 4 day a week program of classes and clinical. The bonus is the 5th day usually Friday's is open for tutoring, students studying in groups, time to practice skills all with the direction of a faculty member. The media center complete with computers and on site assistance is available Mon – Thurs 0800 – 8 pm and Friday 0800 – 3 pm.

Where can the LPN find employment?

Our graduates are employed in long term acute care hospitals, out- patient clinics, school district health clinics and schools that meet the needs of children and teens with special needs, nursing homes, rehabilitation facilities, home health agencies, dialysis clinics and case management for insurance companies.

Are online classes available?

The PN program uses a hybrid course for Introduction to Health Science.

Does this mean I don't have to attend class?

The class and computer based software are blended together to allow the student to receive in class training and follow through with skills online.

Is job placement available upon graduation?

Job placement assistance is provided with clinical sites and the advisory committee.
