A Medical Adminstrative student having fun with a practice test on the computerPROGRAM DESCRIPTION: Program content includes the use of technology to develop communications skills, higher level thinking skills, decision-making skills, medical terminology, and the performance of office procedures that are specific to the medical environment.

The transcription of medical documents from machine dictation, the production of quality work in an efficient manner using advanced features of business software applications, the research of job opportunities, and the production of high quality employment portfolios and job-seeking documents are an integral part of this program.A Medical Adminstrative student having fun with a practice test on the computer

Program focus is on broad transferable skills and stresses the understanding and demonstration of the following elements of the medical secretarial industry: planning, management, finance, technical and production skills, underlying principles of technology, labor issues, community issues, and health, safety, and environmental issues.

  1. In addition to classroom and laboratory work, each program will involve homework outside of the classroom environment.

  2. It is the goal of Brewster Technical Center to provide training in each of its training programs on equipment and software that is better than or equal to that in the business community. Software packages and equipment are utilized as available.

  3. Those students advancing to OTA 0651which includes externship must have an overall grade point average (GPA) of at least a 2.0 on the Hillsborough County School's 4.0 scale prior to the anticipated extern experience. Any student whose GPA is below 2.0 will not be assigned to an extern facility.

  4. Students are required to purchase new materials as needed to meet the requirements of the upgrading of course work deemed necessary to complete objectives and to meet industry standards.

  5. Students who have reached OTA 0651 level must have passed each section of the TABE Test at level 10 to be eligible for externship. Students who do not remediate and successfully complete the TABE requirements will not be assigned to an extern facility. In order to retake the TABE weekly or monthly, students must show that they have attended remediation. Remediation is available at no extra charge on the Brewster campus.

  6. We strongly urge each graduate to have completed the high school equivalent test (GED) or have a high school diploma before completing the training program. Many of the positions in the business office industry require a high school diploma or GED.

  7. In addition to an overall 2.0 GPA, each student must earn at least a grade of "C" (2.0) in OTA 0651 in order to be eligible for externship and graduation.
